To all Christian people to whom these presents shall come, I William Horton of the County of Westmoreland in the colony of Virginia, gentleman send greetings in our Lord God know ye that I the said William Horton for diverse good causes me thereunto moving more specially for the love I bear unto George Shears orphaned son of Alexander Shears, deceased to freely and absolutely for me and for my heirs relinquished all my right title interest in property of and or to 100 acres of land lying and being in the said County in the forest, and formerly in the tenure and occupation of him the said Alexander Shears, deceased, and being part of a patent of 1227 acres formerly granted unto Mr. John Berryman, deceased, me the said Horton and John Palmer, deceased by patent dated 14 October 1670 as may more at large appear by the said patent and furthermore I the said William Horton to hereby warrant that he the said George Shears his heirs or assigns may from time to time in at all times hereafter have hold occupy possess and enjoy the said 100 acres of land against the claim of me the said William Horton or my heirs or assigns or any claiming from by or under me. In witness whereof I have set my hand and affixed my seal this 21st day of September 1696.
