Jane W. Cannaday1

Female, #199, (1775 - circa 1810)

Birth*1775 Jane W. Cannaday was born in 1775.
Marriage*1792 She married William Triplett Dishman Sr., son of John Dishman Jr. and Ann Triplett, in 1792.2,3
Death*circa 1810 Jane W. Cannaday died circa 1810 in Westmoreland County, Virginia.4
Research* Researcher's Note: From James D. Dishman on 29 Dec 2001: You will also note that the book (King George County Marriages, Vol. 1) lists William's 1st and 3rd marriage, but not the second. There is over a 10 year period that the marriage records are missing in Westmoreland and this is the period that William married Jane W. Cannaday who is who we descend from. The name Jane W. is proved by the records but the name Cannaday does not appear. I determined that she was a Cannaday from a letter written by her son and our ancestor - John Dishman to his half brother William II who was then living in Washington County, Va., dated 1836 in which he made reference to "Uncle Ruben" and the records proved that there was a Ruben Cannaday. Not the best of evidence but better than none.5

  1. [S178] There is over a 10 year period that the marriage records are missing in Westmoreland and this is the period that William married Jane W. Cannaday. The name Jane W. is proved by the records but the name Cannaday does not appear. James D. Dishman determined that she was a Cannaday from a letter written by her son John Dishman to his half brother William Dishman, who was then living in Washington County, Va., dated 1836 in which he made reference to "Uncle Ruben". A search of the records of Westmoreland County indicates that this most likely referred to Ruben Cannaday, so Cannaday is assumed to be Jane W.'s surname.
