Samuel Dishman (Duchemin) to James Samuel Dishman

Generation 1

Samuel Dishman

Proof that John Dishman is the son of Samuel Dishman Samuel’s will, dated November 15, 1726, makes several bequeaths to his son John, including:
“I give and bequeath unto my eldest son John Dishman all my lands in Stafford County…”

Generation 2

John Dishman

Proof that John Dishman, Jr. is the son of John Dishman John’s will, dated March 20, 1738, makes a bequeath to his son John:
“I give and bequeath my land in Westmoreland County to my loving wife during her natural life and after her decease to be equally divided between my two sons Samuel Dishman and John Dishman.”

Generation 3

John Dishman Jr.

Proof that William Triplett Dishman is the son of John Dishman, Jr. John Jr.’s will, dated January 17, 1790, leaves all of his estate to his wife Ann Dishman:
“I give to my wife Ann Dishman during her life the use of my whole estate both real and personal…”

and requests that she divide it among his children at her death:

“…at her death my desire is that she shall dispose of it among my children as she thinks proper…”

Ann’s will, dated March 20, 1791, states that she agrees to her husband’s wishes:

“I, Ann Dishman of Westmoreland County, now in perfect mind and memory do agreeable to the will and request of my late deceased husband John Dishman dispose of my estate given me by him to my under mentioned children in the following manner…”

and she makes several bequeaths to her son William, including:

“I give to my son William Dishman the plantation whereon I now live in Westmoreland County.”

Generation 4

William Triplett Dishman

Proof that John Triplett Dishman is the son of William Triplett Dishman The Westmoreland County, Virginia, death register records the death of John T. Dishman on December 1, 1866 at age 70.  The death register lists his parents as Wm. and J.W. Dishman, his place of birth as Westmoreland County, and that his wife Mary H. Dishman was the informant.

Generation 5

John Triplett Dishman

Proof that James William Dishman is the son of John Triplett Dishman The 1860 Federal Census for Westmoreland County, Virginia, lists J.T. Dishman (age 63), M.H. Dishman (age 42), and three children.  The youngest child is J.W. Dishman who is 10 years old.

The King George County, Virginia, death register records the death of Mary S. Dishman on June 10, 1877 at age 62.  The death register gives John T. Dishman as her consort.  Her son James W. Dishman was the informant.

Generation 6

James William Dishman

Proof that James Samuel Dishman is the son of James William Dishman The family bible originally owned by James William Dishman includes the entry: “James Samuel Dishman son of James and Annah Dishman was born December 21, 1885”.

The 1900 Federal Census for King George County, Virginia, lists James W. Dishman (age 47), his wife Anna E. Dishman (age 47), and their six children.  The youngest son is Samuel Dishman, age 14.

The marriage license of James Samuel Dishman and Betty Grigsby recorded in King George County, Virginia, on November 21, 1916 lists James Samuel’s parents as J.W. Dishman and A.E. Dishman.
