Death of Child1801His son Samuel Owens died in 1801 in King George County, Virginia.
Will9 Apr 1807Nathaniel Owens made a will on 9 Apr 1807. Reuben Owens was named as heir.2

Other Information

Research Note

In his will written 9 Apr 1807 Nathaniel Owens left a small legacy to his stepdaughter Elizabeth Marders and directed that the remainder of his estate be divided among his children. He did not name his children except for his deceased son Samuel whose share he said should be divided between Samuel's sons Reuben and William. He did name two sons-in-law as executors, Allen Stewart and Thomas Pettit. The settlement of his estate was recorded in the county records with the final entry in 1814. The settlement records list the legacy to Eliza Marders and then seven equal shares. The shares were distributed to Hugh Gordon (assumed to be a son-in-law), Nathaniel Owens (son), William Owens (son), grandsons Reuben and William (Samuel's share), Nathaniel Pettite and wife (son-in-law and daughter), Allen Stewart and wife (son-in-law and wife), and Thomas Pettit and wife (son-in-law and wife). A search of marriage records for Fauquier County in this time period show a Sarah Owens married Hugh Gordon, Mary Owens married Allen Stewart, Gehethelon Owens married Thomas Pettit, and Rebecca Owens married Nathaniel Pettit. Therefore the likely daughters of Nathaniel Owens are Mary, Sarah, Behethelon, and Rebecca and his sons are Samuel, Nathaniel Jr., and William.
