General Cornwallis defeated the American forces commanded by Major General Nathanael Greene. He was discharged following this tour but was drafted again into the Virginia militia under the command of Capt. John Loving and served a tour of four months. He took part in the Siege of Yorktown from 28 Sep to 19 Oct 1781 in which the American forces under General George Washington and French forces under Rochambeau defeated Lt. General Cornwallis. Following this tour he was discharged for the final time and returned to Amherst County.4
